How to use
Initial cleaning
- Wash with hot water and a bit of coarse salt to remove any dust or debris from production. Rinse thoroughly with hot water and let it dry.
Oiling
- Rub all over with vegetable oil.
- Leave the stone in a warm place until it is dry.
First use
- Place the stone in a cold oven.
- Set the temperature to 120 °C (250 °F) and heat for 10 minutes.
- Increase to 180 °C (350 °F) for another 10 minutes.
- Increase to 220–250 °C (430–480 °F) for 10–15 minutes.
- Turn off the oven and let the stone cool naturally inside. This gradual heating ‘trains’ the stone and reduces the risk of future cracking.
Preheating for regular cooking
Once the stone has been tempered, you don’t need to follow the multi-stage process again. Bring it to temperature and start cooking – simple, healthy, and delicious!
- Barbecue/grill
- Place the stone on unlit or low burners/coals.
- Bring the heat up gradually. Avoid placing it directly over roaring flames immediately.
- Gas stove (only with flame diffuser)
- Start on low heat then increase gradually.
- Never use high heat straight away.
- Fireplace or open flame
- Make Start sure not to concentrate the flame in one single spot and always keep the flame low and even to avoid thermal stress.
- The Saluté Stone also works perfectly with charcoal, ensuring steady, gentle and uniform cooking.
- Oven
- Place the stone in a cold oven.
Preheat to your cooking temperature.
Helpful tips
✔ Make sure not to concentrate the flame in one single spot and always keep the flame low and even to avoid thermal stress.
✔ Do preheat the stone gradually on every use.
✔ Always let the stone cool naturally – no cold water or sudden temperature drops.
✔ Slightly oil the surface before preheating to prevent sticking.
✔ When cooking food without natural fat or juices, brush with vegetable oil (olive oil is recommended) while cooking.
✖ Don’t use detergents to clean as they may be absorbed by the stone – clean only with warm water or vinegar once cooled.
